Course overview

The two year HND is a Level 5 qualification and equivalent to the first two years of a university degree (240 credits). HNDs are well respected by universities and employers and offer a less costly alternative to a traditional university route. Our HND in Performing Arts equips learners with the knowledge, understanding, training and skills that are essential for finding employment in the highly competitive performing arts and support industries.

Course requirements

Entry requirements include one of the following:

  • Level 3 qualification in performing arts or related discipline or A Levels in related subjects
  • Access to Higher Education certificate
  • A student with relevant work experience and a good standard or education who would benefit from this qualification

All students must at least a C grade in GCSE maths and English or equivalent qualification.

Performing Arts Level 5 HND Units include:

  • Professional practice
  • Research skills
  • Production in performing arts
  • Musical theatre
  • Small scale touring
  • Devising

You will be taught through a mixture of practical workshops, performance activities, lectures and seminars, as well as master classes with visiting professionals and you will be assessed research project, performances, essays and events.

What can I do when I finish?

In to the workplace or further study e.g. bachelor’s degree or the final stage of a bachelor’s top-up degree (dependent on university entry requirements). There are a wide variety of careers including performance roles, teaching and theatre management.
