IT is used in most areas of employment and the Introductory Diploma in Information Technology L1 is a skills based qualification designed to help learners progress to independent living, future employment or further vocational study with opportunities for learners to build and develop practical IT skills and improve their understanding of work based skills while gaining a qualification that is relevant, current and useful for learners who wish to work in the world of IT and Business. The qualification is designed to support employability and progression and gives learners opportunity to show what they can do as well as what they know.
Minimum 3 GCSE’s at grades 2 - 1 (E - F) or equivalent, or entry level qualification. Alternative qualifications and experience will be considered.
What can I do when I finish?
Progression internally depending upon achievement, attendance and motivation to a Level 2 course in ICT or another area, apprenticeship or trainee post. Employment opportunities may include junior office positions or trainee creative or technical IT positions.

What will I do?
The Introductory Diploma in Information Technology Level 1 is taught over three days per week for one year.
Award topics covered include:
- Digital Information Skills, such as interactive presentations, spreadsheets
- Creative IT Skills, websites, animated graphics
- Employability Skills
Units are taught in classes with a mixture of activities based on the unit content including written and practical tasks.
Assessment is via assignments and portfolios.
Skills in Maths and English will be taught as a mandatory part of this course. Work experience will also be included as part of this course.
What will it give me?
The course will help you achieve a Diploma in Information Technology Level 1 alongside qualifications in maths and English if you do not already hold a grade C or above. It will help to develop skills and employment opportunities and the ability to progress onto a Level 2 course in IT.
