The Access to HE Diploma – Health Science is an exciting course that can get you ready for university if you don’t have the right qualifications.

Our learners progress to degrees in subjects such as Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Health & Social Care, Paramedic Science, Operating Department Practice Studies, Biomedical Science, Physiotherapy, Social Work, Criminology, Forensic Science, Child Care, Paediatrics and more.

The Access to HE Diploma - Health is a part-time Level 3 course which will run on two weekdays 9.30 – 3.00pm September-June. In less than one year this means that you can achieve everything you need to move on to university.

The programme is designed to support learners who want to progress onto higher education study. Not only will you receive help in achieving a qualification – you will also receive a full range of support in applying for your desired university course, your student funding application, and your career development.

Course requirements

There is an interview and screening process for Maths and English. GCSE English/Maths are desirable, and the college can support you to achieve this.

You must be 19+ to undertake this course.

What will I do?

On the Access to HE Diploma - Health Science Level 3 course you will study a range of Level 2 / 3 units in preparation for progression to studying at HE Level.

The Access to HE Diploma - Health Science Level 3 focuses on enabling you to attain the UCAS tariff points to study a degree programme which in turn will lead you to your ideal career.

You will study:

Level 2 Study Skills, including Presentation Skills and Data Handling

Level 3 Contemporary Issues in Health

Level 3 Health Promotion

Level 3 Human Biology

Level 3 Immunopathology

Level 3 Psychology & or Healthcare Project /Humans Against Disease (TBC)

Your assessment will be in a variety of formats including essays, reports, presentations, academic posters, podcasts, brochures, etc.

All Level 3 units are graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction which will inform your UCAS points for HE.

On this programme you will develop skills in:

Higher Order Thinking skills such as analysis / synthesis / evaluation / justification

Reading information and selecting key information / facts / ideas

Referencing

Research using academic sources

Writing in a range of different formats

What will it give me?

The Access to Higher Education Diploma is designed for mature students (aged over 19 at the start of the programme), who want to go to university but don't have the formal qualifications to get there. The programme is structured into specific diplomas, which prepare students to study in Higher Education for a variety of careers as well as subject related degrees. You will attain a Level 3 Diploma in Health Science on this programme.

Materials needed

Basic stationery. A laptop computer would be advantageous however this is not essential as the College has dedicated IT facilities for degree students and adults.

What can I do when I finish?
