Pet rescue!
Two of the college’s security staff came to the rescue when a Labrador pup got stuck in a perimeter fence during a rabbit chase.
Eleven-month-old golden Labrador Maggie was out walking on the college fields on Tuesday night with her brother George, a black Labrador, when she became trapped.
Owner Jayne Crowther explained what happened: “Maggie was being walked by my partner Graeme and spotted a rabbit and gave chase! She is prone to chasing birds and rabbits. Otherwise she’s brilliant on the leader and with her recall. But the sight of the rabbit was all it took and she bolted.
“The first I knew was a phone call from Graeme asking me to come and help; he was struggling with George to look after too.
“He could see Maggie but couldn’t get her through to the side he was on. He put her leader on her and kept hold while he waited for help. I tried to walk down the college side of the fence but was blocked by the gated area which is when I went inside asking for help.”
The couple, who live in nearby Barrington Meadows with teenage daughters Anna and Katie and their third pet Beau the cat, were relieved when Estates and Security Assistants Tony Ali and Adam Heslop managed to get Maggie free.
Jayne added: “The guys were so helpful and without them I really don’t know what we would have done - thank goodness it was a night the college was open. She trusted them too when Graeme had to hand the leader over to them - George wasn’t happy though. Protective of his sister but they were quickly reunited.”
