90 Credit Diploma in Art & Design

Overview

The 90 Credit Diploma provides in-depth knowledge from a wide selection of areas in the creative field including fine art, textiles, graphics, multimedia and photography. You will start with the fundamentals of Art &a Design and then develop your skills in a range of specialists areas, which may include Visual Re-coding, Ideas and Concepts, Historical Studies, Textiles, Graphics, Multimedia, Photography, Sculpture, Computers and Printmaking. As part of the course you will also study maths, English if required and partake in work experience.

Course requirements

Four GCSEs Grade C or above, one of which must be in art based subject or a Level 2 BTEC Diploma or equivalent. You should also demonstrate an interest and potential to succeed in achieving the qualification. You will be required to attend an informal interview and to bring along a portfolio of recent work. If you do not meet the formal entry requirements you may be able to join the course if you have relevant subject experience.

What will I do?

This full time course is taught over 4 days per week which includes Maths, English and work experience. The BTEC Diploma provides in-depth knowledge from a wide selection of areas in the creative field including fine art, textiles, graphics, multimedia and photography. You will start with the fundamentals of Art & Design and then develop your skills in a range of specialist areas which may include Visual Recording, Ideas and Concepts, Historical Studies, Textiles, Graphics, Multimedia, Photography, Sculpture, Computers and Printmaking.

What will it give me?

This is a specialist qualification for those who have a clear view of their future career or want to progress to Higher Education. It is equivalent to 3 A levels and highly valued by Universities. The course is a very successful and 100% of all students who apply to University receive a place.

Materials needed

You will be provided with specialist art equipment throughout the course but will be expected to provide your basic art materials and you will be asked to contribute towards the cost of educational visits as part of your studies.

What can I do when I finish?

If you gain suitable grades you may progress to the Extended Diploma in Art & Design Level 3 or Higher Education and do a degree in Fine Art, Animation, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design or Photography.
