Be a Fitness Instructor – Gym Based Exercise (part time)


If you are looking to become qualified as a fitness instructor then here is the place to start. This course will provide the skills required to become a fully qualified Fitness Instructor in Gym-Based Exercise. While working towards this course you will be given the opportunity to learn how to safely prepare a fitness session within the College fitness suite environment.

Course requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however you will need to have a good understanding of literacy due to the level of anatomy and physiology terminology. An interview and short assessment will assess your suitability and interest in the subject.

What will I do?

This part time course is 1 evening per week for 34 weeks. You will cover practical and theory covering all elements of the body’s systems including nutrition and lifestyle. You will be practically assessed in the College’s own fitness suite and you will build a portfolio of theorectical evidence.

What will it give me?

An improved CV including practical experience and a qualification in gym-based fitness instruction. Employers often offer interviews to candidates who are working towards their Level 2 in Fitness Instruction, however some offer an interview once the qualification has been certificated.

Materials needed

You will need sportswear and suitable footwear for sports related activity. You will also be required to purchase a Student Fitness Instructor uniform consisting of a polo t-shirt.

What can I do when I finish?

Once certified as a Fitness Instructor you may progress to the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training at College. You may also progress into other areas of Sport and Fitness training (eg. Level 3 Certificate in Sports Massage).
