Apprenticeship in Catering

Overview

Career opportunities linked to the Hospitality and Catering industry are continuing to expand. The College’s excellent catering department works with employers to help develop the skills of trainee chefs and catering assistants. You will be given the opportunity to refine your skills in all of the College’s commercially operated venues including our ‘Ambition’ restaurant, shop, brasserie and ‘Meeting Place’ eatery.

Course requirements

Minimum three GCSEs at grade A-D including maths and English. Alternatively you may have completed a suitable full-time programme at Level 1 including functional skills.

What will I do?

You will be required to complete the NVQ and Diploma in Professional Cookery as well as completing Employment Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. If it is required, you will also need to complete Functional Skills in Mathematics and English. You will be allocated an assessor who will visit you in your work place to provide support with the NVQ and Technical Certificate.

What will it give me?

This course will help develop your skills within the Catering industry. It will help develop your knowledge of different foods and give you valuable experience of working in high-pressure working envrionments.

What can I do when I finish?

Progress to the level 3 (advanced) apprenticeship in Professional Cookery. Progress in to a career as a: Hotel / Restaurant Manager, Trainee Chef, Pastry Chef, Baker Chocolatier, Restaurant owner.
