Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care

Overview

This Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care is about helping people with a particular need, such as the disabled, the elderly or people with learning disabilities. This type of care usually takes place in the home or in care homes or out in the community, and can include anything from helping people get dressed to transporting them to and from a residential home or taking them shopping.

Course requirements

You will be required to complete the Diploma in Health and Social Care as well as completing Employer Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. If it is required, you will also need to complete Functional Skills in Mathematics and English. You will be allocated an assessor who will visit you in your work place to provide you with support with the Diploma.

What will I do?

What will it give me?

If you are professional, caring and responsible, with a desire to help people, then a career in the Health and Social Care industries could be the right choice for you. There are a variety of roles available and many Apprentices go on to university to study Nursing, Social Work or Counselling. Please note that some placements will require you to be over 17 years of age; please ask for details. You will also gain a nationally recognised qualification and valuable working experience.

What can I do when I finish?

Progress to the level 3 (advanced) apprenticeship in Health and Social Care (if you are able to secure a position within an organisation which has a level of supervisory responsibility.) Completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship will stand you in good stead for progression on to higher education in subjects like Nursing, Operating Department Practitioner roles and Management roles.
