Apprenticeship in Outdoor Instructing

Overview

This exciting Apprenticeship focuses on skills needed for effective activity leadership. Working within the Sport & Leisure industry in one of four potential pathways: Fitness Instructor, Outdoor Activity Leader, Coaching or School P.E. Instructor.

The Apprenticeship will develop your team work and leadership skills. Careers in this area can be extremely rewarding, with lots of memorable experiences.

Course requirements

Four GCSEs grades A-D and these must include maths and English or equivalent qualifications such as Functional/Key Skills in English and Mathematics at Level 1.

What will I do?

You will be required to complete the NVQ in Activity Leadership and the Level 2 Certificate in Outdoor Leadership. As well as completing Employment Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. If it is required, you will also need to complete Functional Skills in Mathematics and English. You will be allocated an assessor who will visit you in your work place to provide support with the NVQ and you will attend Bishop Auckland College 1 day a week to complete theory work.

What will it give me?

The apprenticeship will provide you with valuable work experience within the Outdoor Industry, assisting with a variety of activities and work-related tasks in the Outdoor Industry environment. The apprenticeship will also provide you with nationally recognised qualifications which are sought after by employers in the current climate.

Materials needed

You will need to wear appropriate clothing/kit for the outdoors. This will be fully discussed with your employer/assessor upon the commencement of the apprenticeship.

What can I do when I finish?

Progress to the Level 3 (Advanced) Apprenticeship in Activity Leadership or onto a full time course.
