Course overview

At Level 2, students will immerse themselves in a dynamic and professional range of traditional art and design skills. From drawing and painting to 3D sculpture and graphic design, you'll explore a wide variety of materials and learn how to bring them to life in your work. You'll master the essentials of visual language, tone, color, shape, form, and composition, while developing a final project that highlights the techniques and materials you've explored. Throughout the year, you'll also build broader skills by collaborating with local artists, visiting galleries, and exhibiting your own creations. After completing this course, you'll be ready to progress to a T Level or Art and Design Level 3, where your creative journey continues to soar!

Course requirements

Level 1 qualification or some prior experience of art and design.

What will I do?

As part of the Level 2 you will undertake three mandatory units: - Investigate sources of ideas in art and design - Explore and use art and design materials, techniques and visual language - Produce final art and design work Plus, learners will study towards two additional units subject to interest and abilities. As well as the practical portfolio there are written assignments and tasks to complete. The course is three days (extra days and evenings around the gallery times) where you will be studying your main qualification, maths and English at GCSE level (only if you do not have an A-C or 4-9 Grade).

What will it give me?

A Level 2 Certificate in Art and Design.

Materials needed

Art equipment as stated on interview, a A5 - A3 portfolio and basic stationery.

What can I do when I finish?

If you have successfully completed this course with good grades and attendance you will be interviewed for the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design.
