ONE Awards Access to HE Diploma – Health Science L3


Bishop Auckland College has an excellent reputation for providing Access to Higher Education courses. Since they first became available, the courses have enabled hundreds of adults to progress to university to fulfil their dreams and aspirations of studying for a degree – an opportunity which many thought had passed them by.

Course requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. However, you are expected to undertake screenings in maths and English and take part in a one-to-one interview.

What will I do?

This is designed for people who would like to enter a career in the health field, such as Nursing, Midwifery, Radiography or to study a science related subject such as Forensics. You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, work-based projects and directed independent study. Each unit is assessed using different methods, including essay assignments, examinations, portfolio building, practical sessions, presentations and research projects.

What will it give me?

The Access to Higher Education Diploma is designed for mature students (aged over 19 at the start of the programme), who want to go to university but don’t have the formal qualifications to get there. The programme is structured into specific pathways, which prepare students to study in Higher Education for a variety of careers as well as subject related degrees.

What can I do when I finish?

Bachelors degrees in Humanities, Social Sciences / Health Sciences at university. You could also go into the following careers: Humanities / Social Science – Social Work, Teaching, Youth Work and Law. Health Science – Nursing, Midwifery and Radiography.
