Course overview

This course will provide you with the introductory knowledge and skills you will need to undertake work in the carpentry and joinery industry. During the course you will learn how to manufacture windows, doors, stairs and units, as well as fitments, including marking out, machining and assembling. Our courses have an excellent reputation with employers and help you to develop construction skills that will put you at the forefront of the job market. In College, you will be taught by staff who, have not only had successful careers in industry themselves, but who also lead in shaping the UK’s construction and building services training sector.

Course requirements

You will be required to complete the NVQ and Diploma in Bench Joinery as well as completing Employer Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. If it is required, you will also need to complete Functional Skills in Mathematics and English. You will be allocated an assessor who will visit you in your work place to provide support for the NVQ and you will attend Bishop Auckland College one day a week to complete theory work.

What will it give me?

A nationally recognised qualification and the occupational competence of a Bench Joiner at Level 2.
