Course overview

You will get the chance to add to your existing skills, while earning a wage and gaining more advanced technical knowledge of bench joinery. This course is for those employed in the construction industry as a bench joiner. You will come into College one day a week, to complete the underpinning knowledge and portfolio building to compile the evidence you need for your qualifications.The apprenticeship is made up of the following elements: NVQ 3 in Bench Joinery Level 3 Diploma in Bench Joinery Employment rights and responsibilities Personal learning and thinking skills You will also study English and maths (if needed)

Course requirements

You will need L2 English and Mathematics,or GCSE C grades - or be at a suitable standard to achieve these qualifications as part of your apprenticeship.

What will I do?

You will be required to complete the NVQ and Diploma in Joinery (Bench) as well as completing Employment Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. If it is required, you will also need to complete Functional Skills in Mathematics and English. You will be allocated an assessor who will visit you in your work place to provide support with the NVQ and you will attend Bishop Auckland College 1 day a week to complete theory work.

What will it give me?

You will gain a nationally recognised qualification as well as developing on the job skills and improving your career prospects.

Materials needed

Nothing, your employer will provide you with PPE (protective clothing).

What can I do when I finish?

Progress to a HNC/HND/foundation degree in construction and the built environment, construction management or conservation and restoration.
