Course overview

This qualification is for Pre-service or In-service Teachers, Associate Teachers, Trainers, Assessors or Learning Support Assistants. It is aimed at candidates who: • are deemed to be in an Associate Teacher role or • would like or require an introduction to Teaching/Training in Education & Training or • those in a support role that would simply like to gain an better understanding of the roles and responsibility of a teacher / trainer • are seeking career progression within education & training

Course requirements

You must have a relevant level 3 qualification and experience in the subject specialist area you intending to teach/train or support. It is also beneficial to have Maths and/or English Level 2 or equivalent

What will I do?

The programme has 4 modules including: Roles, responsibilities and relationships of a teacher, Understanding inclusive learning, Principles of assessment and planning and using inclusive learning – which will include delivery of a short micro-teach session to your peers. A range of teaching and learning strategies will be implemented to deliver the programme content. This will include individual and collaborative learning activities, group discussions, presentations, using the college ‘Virtual Learning Environment’, research tasks and workshops.

What will it give me?

A recognised qualification for those who are preparing to teach or support teaching in the Education & Training Sector.

Materials needed

There is no uniform required for this programme of study. You will be expected to provide stationery and purchase a text book to support your studies.

What can I do when I finish?

You can progress onto the City and Guilds L4 Certificate in Education & Training (Formerly CTLLS) or University of Sunderland PCET/PGCE
