Course overview

The Award in Basic Construction Skills L1 is ideal for those who want to gain skills in plastering whether it is a niggly D.I.Y. job for around the home or  looking to improve your career prospects by gaining knowledge and skills on a maintenance level.


You will experience:


  • Know about tools, materials and  equipment used in plastering
  • Know about backgrounds that receive plaster
  • Be able to plan, prepare carry out plastering task
  • Apply angle beads.
  • Apply floating coats using a range of materials.
  • Apply a range of backing coats.
  • Apply finishing coats.
  • Apply plaster to window reveals.


Course requirements

This course will suit all levels of capability and there are no course requirements.

What will I do?

Whilst studying the NOCN Award in Basic Construction Skills L1 - Develop Your Basic Plastering Skills, Learners will apply scratch, floating and finishing coats to a variety of backgrounds using various materials commonly found within the plastering trade.

You can expect to mix materials, improve your techniques and pick up some handy tips whilst working in a friendly and relaxed environment.

What will it give me?

Learners can expect to improve their knowledge, confidence and skills in plastering using a variety of materials and tools.

Materials needed

P.P.E. is required in relation to safety boots and alternative P.P.E is provided if needed.

What can I do when I finish?

Learners can progress with confidence and skills required onto a higher level in plastering.
