Course overview

The Diploma in Vehicle Fitting Principles is a Level 2 course which includes a full range of routine vehicle fitting procedures and essential knowledge for vehicle fitters working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages and fast fit businesses.

It is a learning programme that involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of vehicle fitting.


Course requirements

Learners also gain a wide knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, agreeing customer needs and skills associated with working in a garage, inspecting, repairing and replacing vehicle tyres, carrying out light vehicle front wheel alignment, inspecting and replacing light vehicle: clutches, exhaust components, suspension dampers, vehicle batteries and braking systems.


What will I do?

Whilst studying the Diploma in Vehicle Fitting Principles L2, you will have practical time in the workshop and also classroom theory covering a range of units which include:

 

  • Testing batteries and other engine parts to find faults
  • Checking tyres and exhausts for defects
  • Replacing or repairing faulty parts
  • Balancing and re-aligning wheels
  • Offering customers advice on simple maintenance issues.

Plus, other non-technical but essential skills also include: how to maintain good working relationships with colleagues and customers in the automotive work environment by using effective communication and support.

 

 


What will it give me?

A City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Fitting Principles (VRQ) qualification.


Materials needed

You will need safety footwear, overalls and course text book which you can purchase from the College.


What can I do when I finish?

Gain employment in the vehicle fitting industry or an apprenticeship programme.
