Course overview

Construction is the UK`s biggest industry, with over two million people working in over 700 diverse careers. Once working in the industry, there are many opportunities to develop skills throughout your career. The Extended Certificate in Construction Skills L1 covers a range of skills & knowledge including, Bricklaying, Carpentry & Joinery, Construction Industry, Health & Safety Painting & Decorating, Paving, and Plastering.

There are no entry requirements for this course. Initial assessments will be carried out to assess suitability for the programme.


What will I do?

The City & Guilds Construction qualifications are highly regarded within the industry. You will carry out many activities on this course relating to Construction Skills. The units and activities you will cover whilst studying the Extended Certificate in Construction Skills L1 are: Bricklaying, Carpentry & Joinery, Construction Industry, Health & Safety Painting & Decorating, Paving, and Plastering. You will also carry out internal/external projects enhancing your learning experience and employability skills.


What will it give me?

This course will give you a Level 1 extended Certificate in Construction Skills. This qualification is vital if you are wanting to progress onto one of our main trade areas or apprenticeships in Bricklaying, Carpentry & Joinery, Painting & Decorating and Property Maintenance.


Materials needed

The only materials you will require are safety steel toe cap boots. You may also wish to wear a polo shirt, jumper or overalls, all of which you can purchase from the college. You will be provided with a high visibility vest which you will be required to wear in practical lessons.


What can I do when I finish?

Upon successful completion of the course you may want to progress onto one of our other construction courses in Bricklaying, Carpentry & Joinery, Painting & Decorating and Property Maintenance.
