Course overview

The Certificate in Skills for Employment Training and Personal Development L1 has been devised for learners who have significant learning difficulties and disabilities. On the course you will be working at L1 to develop the skills you will need at home and in everyday life.


Set over 3 days a week, where you will have the opportunity to develop your maths and english skills. You will take part in visits and various activities, including outings and development exercises, work experience and work in the classroom. Extensive support will be provided for learners during class, breaks and lunchtimes.

What will I do?

Whilst attending the Certificate in Skills for Employment Training and Personal Development L1 you will learn about employability skills taking into account targets set by your SEN / EHCP plans.

You will take part in various tasters such as Hair and beauty, childcare, music, art, catering, IT and sport.

Subjects may include Independent shopping for household items, Using Kitchen Equipment, Pet Care and Safe Independent Travel


What will it give me?

A L1 Certificate in Skills for Employment Training and Personal Development.

This course will also give you foundation for lifelong learning focusing on transferable social, life and employability skills which are essential for living and working in the community.


Materials needed

£2.00 weekly kitty which will be used on outings through the year. Trainers required for the exercise sessions.


What can I do when I finish?

Once you have built your skills you may progress on to the main stream courses across the college or into employment.
