Course overview

The Extended Diploma in Art & Design L3 is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding to progress to degree level study in art & design or into employment. Students will explore, develop and expand their creativity within a qualification structure, which is stimulating, demanding and provides a supportive transition from further to higher education. The vocational context of this qualification is key and this is provided through assignment briefs that provide you with realistic, work based scenarios and projects.

Level 3 90 Credit Diploma or equivalent. Alternative qualifications and experience will be considered

What will I do?

The Extended Diploma in Art & Design L3 is taught over four days per week which includes Maths, English and work experience. The BTEC Extended Diploma provides in-depth knowledge from a wide selection of areas in the creative field including fine art, textiles, graphics, multimedia and photography. You will start with the knowledge gained from your 90 credit diploma in Art & Design and then develop your skills in a range of specialist areas which may include visual recording, ideas and concepts, historical studies, textiles, graphics, multimedia, photography, sculpture, computers and printmaking.

What will it give me?

This is a specialist qualification for those who have a clear view of their future career or want to progress to Higher Education. The course is equivalent to three A levels and highly valued by Universities. The course is a very successful course and 100% of all students who apply to University receive a place.

Materials needed

You will be provided with specialist art equipment throughout the course but will be expected to provide your basic art materials and you may be asked to contribute towards the cost of educational visits as part of your studies.

What can I do when I finish?

If you gain suitable grades you may progress to Higher Education and do a degree in fine art, animation, fashion design, graphic design, interior design or photography.
