A Higher Education student from Bishop Auckland College has been selected to referee in the IberCup, one of the largest international youth football tournaments in the world.
Carl Draper, a HND Sport student at the college, was selected by Durham FA Referees Academy for the opportunity, despite only being in his second year of refereeing. He faced a tough selection process, but was ultimately chosen for his professionalism and impressive performances on the pitch so far this year.
He will travel to Portugal in July, where he will referee matches as part of the IberCup tournament held in the luxurious coastal town of Estoril. The tournament will feature teams from around the world, with 200 teams from five different continents playing matches on over 30 football pitches. He will be refereeing matches featuring the best Academy Clubs from around the world.
Carl said, “I am delighted to have been offered the chance to referee at such a well-respected international tournament”.
“It will be a great opportunity to gain experience of refereeing at a major event and improve my own skills. IberCup is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and it is great to be taking part in the celebrations”.
