Course overview

Working to high industry standards the Level 3 provides you with a range of skills including the diagnosis of complex system faults and advanced systems operation, multi-step diagnostic repair and transmission systems. Assessments will be through a combination of practical tasks on motor vehicles and rigs, online tests and written assignment. Students will also work within our new classroom dedicated to hybrid and electrical training as well as completing work placement opportunities with local employers. Additionally, all students will benefit from extra enrichment offsite visits - including Porsche Dealership Teesside, Autosport's - NEC Birmingham, Croft Track Days and also opportunities to do work placements abroad through our Turin programme. We also have onsite visits from industry professionals including Varta, Comma and local Motor factors to show students different opportunities of employment within the motor vehicle industry.

Course requirements

L2 Maintenance & Repair qualification or equivalent. GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and maths.

What will I do?

The Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles Level 3 will cover topics including health and safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment, support skills for job roles in the automotive work environment, skills in materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices in the automotive environment, inspecting light vehicles using prescribed methods, diagnosing and rectifying light vehicle engine faults, diagnosing and rectifying light vehicle chassis system faults, diagnosing and rectifying of auxiliary electrical faults, diagnosing and rectifying light vehicle transmission and driveline faults. You will sit five multiple choice examinations and undertake practical assessments in related workshop activities, including completing a portfolio.

What will it give me?

The course will give you a Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance.

Materials needed

Safety footwear and overalls are required for this course which you can purchase from the college.

What can I do when I finish?

This Level 3 Diploma course provides a progression route into Higher Education courses and employment within the motor vehicle industry.
