What is NEIoT?

The North East Institute of Technology is a collaboration between further education colleges, universities, and leading employers. Its mission is to build high-level technical skills in areas where the region needs it most, particularly in advanced manufacturing, engineering, digital, construction, and retrofit.

Through NEIoT, students can access a wide range of higher technical qualifications, from Level 3 all the way up to Level 7, delivered in partnership with experts from industry and academia.

Why this matters for our students

By being part of NEIoT, Bishop Auckland College students get a huge advantage:

  • Employer-led training: Courses are shaped by real employers, from big industry players to local businesses, so what you learn is exactly what the workplace needs.

  • Strong career prospects: Because NEIoT is focused on sectors with growing demand, you’re more likely to move into roles that are well-paid and future-ready.

  • Flexible options: You can choose full-time or part-time study, or even go down an apprenticeship route.

  • High-quality facilities: NEIoT partners bring innovation to the classroom… think modern workshops, industry-standard equipment, virtual reality training, and more.

  • Practical skills + theory: It’s not just academic learning. You’ll be doing real, hands-on training that matters in today’s technical jobs.

  • Affordable & accessible: The courses are designed to be financially accessible, and you can sometimes benefit from employer or government funding support.

How this helps the North East region

NEIoT is more than just a collection of courses. It’s a regional skill-building power house, aiming to tackle skills gaps, support innovation, and build a strong, technically capable workforce right here in our area.
