Interested in an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are an exciting way to learn and can be the perfect way to fast track your career. You get to learn new skills with hands on training whilst in a real job, earning a wage with paid holidays. You’ll gain a recognised qualification and will have the experience to move straight into employment. Many apprentices are given permanent jobs by their apprenticeship employer at the end of their programme.

At Bishop Auckland College, you can be sure of a quality experience on your apprenticeship.

Who can do an apprenticeship?

Anyone in England aged 16 or over can apply for an apprenticeship.

What levels of apprenticeship are there?

Apprenticeships are available at the following levels:

  • Intermediate Apprenticeships (at level 2)
  • Advanced Apprenticeships (at level 3)
  • Higher Apprenticeships (at levels 4-7)

How long does an apprenticeship last?

Apprenticeships take between one and four years to complete, depending on the subject and the level. Every apprenticeship has an end-point assessment which you will take to ensure that you are fully competent in your role.

How many hours will I work as an apprentice?

You will work between 30 and 40 hours per week, including the time that you spend on off-the-job training, either at college or in your workplace. Most apprenticeships include one day a week at college, but you’ll get paid for that too.

How much will I get paid as an apprentice?

You will earn a minimum of £7.55 per hour (from April 2025) in your first year. Apprentices who are over 19 will get more after the first 12 months.
