Course overview

Childcare is a growing sector with thousands of job opportunities, leading to careers that can be extremely rewarding and diverse. By studying early years at bishop Auckland College, it will provide you with career opportunities such as working as a nanny, pre-school leader or early years practitioner, as well as many other possibilities. Whilst studying the CACHE Diploma in Caring for Children Level 1, we will help develop your skills to the highest level, whichever career path you choose.

Course requirements

Minimum 3 GCSE's at grades 2 - 1 (E - F) or equivalent, or entry level qualification. Alternative qualifications and experience will be considered.

What will I do?

While studying the CACHE Diploma in Caring for Children Level 1, you will gain knowledge on how to care for children from birth. The course is made up of 12 units, covering topics such as the importance of healthy eating within families, child development, the role of play in early years, and how children learn in outdoor environments like Forest Schools. You will also develop a range of essential skills, including teamwork, communication, and working effectively with children. In addition, the course provides opportunities to build practical skills through placement experience in an early years setting. As part of the programme, you will also complete Functional Skills in Maths and English.

What will it give me?

You will gain an understanding of child development and how to meet the needs of children, alongside practical experience through placement in a local early years setting. The course will help build your confidence and ability to study at Level 1, and also support you in achieving qualifications in Maths and English if you do not already have a GCSE at grade C or above. Upon successful completion of the Level 1 qualification, you will have the opportunity to progress to Level 2.

What can I do when I finish?

You may want to progress to a course in Childcare at Level 2, if you pass your Level 1 Childcare course and you gain your qualifications in Functional Skills.
