Are you an adult 19+ interested in the world of fabric, design, and hands-on craft? Our Level 1 Award in Creative Crafts (Textiles) is the perfect starting point for anyone eager to explore the art of textiles, whether you're a complete beginner or want to refine your skills. In this fun and interactive course, you'll learn: Basic sewing techniques, an introduction to different fabrics and materials, simple pattern making, embellishment methods like embroidery and appliqué and how to create your own textile projects. By the end, you'll have a strong foundation in textiles and the confidence to start your own creative projects. The course based in the heart of the community at The Artists Hub in Newgate Street is at a cost of £200 for 10 weeks (alternatively fees may be waivered if you are on a means tested benefit). Starting Friday, the 24th April this course will run every Friday afternoon 9.30am to 12.30pm, during term time.

Course requirements

No formal qualifications required. Suitable for adults aged 19+, including complete beginners, career-changers, those looking for a new hobby or looking to build a portfolio in textiles and creative crafts in a relaxed daytime setting at The Artists Hub in Newgate Street Bishop Auckland.

What will I do?

You will gain hands-on experience in a range of key techniques, including basic hand sewing, fabric preparation and handling, simple construction techniques, introductory machine skills, surface decoration and simple recycling / upcycling.

What will it give me?

A Level 1 Award in Creative Crafts (Textiles). A solid foundation in textiles and techniques. Developing confidence and progression routes to a Level 2 course in the future.

Materials needed

It is optional if you would like to purchase your own equipment throughout the course, but all session resources will be provided.
