Course overview
This one-year Level 6 Top-Up programme builds on the prior Foundation Degree/HND/Level 5 study of students who want to progress to achieving a full BA (Hons) degree. The course explores key themes in education including technology, globalisation and reflective practice, deepening your understanding of educational philosophies, research methods, inclusion, curriculum design, and contemporary issues in the education sector. You will complete a dissertation on a current issue in education and benefit from guest lectures, research opportunities and engagement with debates, all of which build critical thinking, employability and career prospects. This full time one-year programme is taught across two evenings per week, making it highly accessible for those with employment or other commitments during the day.
Course requirements
Applicants should hold a Foundation Degree/HND/Level 5 qualification in an Education-related field, along with GCSE Maths and English at grade 4/C or above (or Level 2 Functional Skills). Mature students with relevant life or employment experience, or applicants with equivalent international qualifications, will be considered on a case by case basis. Experience working with children or young people is advantageous.

Level 6 modules include: Research project in Education, Education and Technology, Working In partnership, Impact of Globalisation in Education, Professional Development and reflective practice.

Materials needed
You will need all basic stationery items for studying. Students will also be made aware of any key texts / books which may be advisable to purchase for the programme. If this is the case, you will be notified of these during induction. A laptop computer would be advantageous however this is not essential as the College has dedicated IT facilities for degree students and adults.
What can I do when I finish?
Graduates may progress into careers such as Primary Teacher (via a PGCE), Learning Mentor, Family Support Worker, Education Officer, Early Years Leader, or Student Support Practitioner. Further study options include post-graduate teacher training programmes, master's degrees or other Level 7 studies in education or related fields, or specialist SEND or leadership programmes.
