Course overview
Whether you're a performer or you love the technical side of music production, our Level 3 Music course will help you develop the skills, knowledge and techniques to go far in this competitive industry and develop as an artist. Working with experts from within the industry, you will gain insight into music theory, composition, performing, sound design, sound recording, sound engineering and professional practice. Students will take part in a variety of live performances, helping you grow in confidence and develop industry ready skills. You will also develop essential knowledge of self promotion and networking, learning how to establish yourself successfully in the music sector. Industry Partnerships Across both years, students work with respected regional organisations including: - FX Productions - live event support, staging and technical production - Aycliffe Radio - broadcasting, presenting and audio production -Kynren - large scale outdoor performance environments - The Auckland Project - cultural and community arts events These partnerships offer meaningful professional experience and industry insight. Live Performance Opportunities Students take part in two major shows each academic year: - January Live Showcase - indoor performance featuring ensembles, soloists and technical roles - June Outdoor Festival - a large outdoor public event with full staging, sound and lighting Year 1 Units Year 1 delivers four mandatory units: A1 - Performing as an Ensemble Develops ensemble rehearsal skills, communication and live performance techniques. A2 - Creating Musical Material Covers composition, sequencing and producing original material using DAWs. A3 - Using Musical Styles Explores a range of genres and how musical characteristics are applied in practice. C7 - Planning a Career in the Industry Introduces music industry sectors, job roles and future progression planning.
Course requirements
Minimum 4 GCSE's at grades 9 - 4 (A* - C) or equivalent, including a C or above in Maths and English, or a Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject area.
What will I do?
Year 1 is taught over three days per week. Your experience includes: - Music performance classes - Music technology and production workshops - Studio sessions - Live sound training - Maths, English and work experience (where required)
What will it give me?
Successful completion of Year 1 awards the Foundation Diploma and allows progression into Year 2 of the course.
Materials needed
To take part in the course effectively, students must bring: - Their own instrument (for rehearsals in college and at home) - A pair of closed back headphones with a 3.5mm jack - Essential for studio sessions, production workshops and DAW based learning
What can I do when I finish?
If you gain suitable grades you may progress to higher education at your chosen university or an HND in Music within Bishop Auckland College.
