Course overview

Take Your First Step Back into Learning. Thinking about a career change, getting back into education, starting an Access to Higher Education course (Level 3) or going to university, but not quite ready yet? This course helps you rebuild confidence, develop academic skills and prepare for higher-level study in a supportive community setting at Macintyre's Community Hub on Friday mornings. There are no formal entry requirements for learners undertaking this vocational qualification, you just need to be over 19. You will study the course over 15 weeks (excluding holidays). If you do not have Maths or English at level 2 or Grade 4, you may benefit from doing these alongside this course. They are needed for progression to many level 3 courses, university degrees, and for numerous employers.

Course requirements

- Adults aged 19+ - No formal entry requirements - Ideal if you've been out of education for a while or want a gentle, supported return to learning There is a friendly interview to make sure the course is right for you.

What will I do?

You will study a range of units introducing you to study skills, including the use of IT, and specific subject units to help you progress in your area of interest and develop academic study and workplace skills, including: Study & Academic Skills . Using IT for learning . Reading and identifying key information . Researching using academic sources . Writing in different formats Transferable Skills for Life, Work & Study - Time management - Problem solving - Organisation and independent learning Subject Pathways (tailored to your interests) Units can support progression into areas such as: - Education - Health - Social Science - Criminology All units are internally assessed, with plenty of guidance and support from your tutor. You will also develop skills in: - Reading information and selecting key information / facts / ideas - Research using academic sources - Writing in a range of different formats

What will it give me?

You will achieve a NOCN Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development at the end of the course.

Materials needed

If you have a laptop it is recommended you bring it with you; however, this is not a requirement.
