Performing Arts Students Secure Industry Roles After HND Success

The Performing Arts department at Bishop Auckland College is celebrating the success of two of its HND students who have secured professional roles within the entertainment industry.

Jordan Cooke, 21, a current HND Level 5 Year 2 student, has landed a contract with Haven in Northumberland after impressing through three rounds of auditions. He will be taking on multiple performance roles as part of the entertainment team.

Meanwhile, Sarah Ward, 22, who graduated from the HND course in June 2024, has already stepped into the industry, securing a role as a Triple Threat Performer with Park Dean Resorts in Scotland. Remarkably, Sarah was offered the position after her very first audition.

Rachael Stewart, Course Co-ordinator and Tutor, shared her pride in the students’ achievements:

“Jordan and Sarah have grown and developed significantly since they started their training with me three years ago, and it has been such a pleasure to have been a part of their journey. Throughout their time on the course, they have gained invaluable experience such as performing in our Pantomime and Musical Theatre showcase productions, working as supporting artists with the DU Ballet Company at the Gala Theatre, and performing at the Bishop Auckland PRIDE Festival – just to name a few. They have also benefitted from valuable industry insights, including feedback and audition advice from our stakeholder Jessica Heron, a casting agent with extensive experience at various holiday parks, as well as our dedicated skills advisors.

This combination of performance opportunities, skills development, and expert support has pushed them outside of their comfort zones, built their confidence, and prepared them for their professional careers. This has resulted in both Jordan and Sarah achieving their dream jobs. I am absolutely thrilled and so incredibly proud of them both.”

Reflecting on his journey, Jordan said:

“Stumbling upon and signing up for this course was a turning point for me, especially since I was unsure about my career path at the time. Choosing to join Level 3 Performing Arts at Bishop Auckland College turned out to be the best move I’ve made for myself and my career. I really enjoyed diving into the valuable knowledge and hands-on learning experiences, which helped me grow my skills and self-belief.

Expressing my career goals and having the unwavering support of my tutor empowered me to explore different paths and find my way. My tutor Rachael was a huge help in guiding me through this process. Her support, industry knowledge, and contacts allowed me to consider various career choices and ultimately led me to discover what I truly wanted – to be a performer and entertainment actor at Haven. This course, and most importantly the tutor Rachael, played a key role in landing my dream job, and I’m so grateful for how it has shaped my career.”

Both Jordan and Sarah’s accomplishments reflect the strength of the college’s Performing Arts programme, its commitment to real world experience, and its dedication to nurturing the next generation of talent.
