Already making a difference in the classroom? This Level 4 qualification is designed for teaching assistants or learning support assistants who are ready to build on their experience and move into a more senior, impactful role. You already know how much a great TA matters. This programme helps you take that expertise further - strengthening your understanding of how people learn, developing your confidence in supporting and mentoring colleagues, and giving you the formal recognition that reflects the level you're already working at. Grounded in your day-to-day work, the course fits around your role rather than taking you away from it. You'll explore theory that connects directly to your classroom practice, and you'll grow as a reflective, confident professional who can lead and support others.

Course requirements

Already have a Level 3 TA qualification - if you do not have a look at our qualification. For the Level 4 because this is a work-based qualification, you'll need to be currently employed in a school or college setting to enrol. Your workplace is where most of your learning and assessment takes place - so your day-to-day experience directly counts towards your qualification. Your employer will need to be supportive of the course to enable the assessments to take place in your setting. You must be in a paid role in a school or college to join this course. What will I do?

Assessment is practical and varied - there's no traditional exam. The course consists of 5 mandatory units, assessed through a combination of: - Workplace observation - Written assignments - Professional discussions You will attend college one evening every month and work independently the rest of the time.

As well as a nationally recognised Level 4 qualification, you'll come away with: A deeper understanding of teaching, learning, and how to support diverse learners Practical skills in mentoring, coaching, and reflective practice The confidence to take on greater responsibility in your school or college Recognition of the professional expertise you've built through years of experience

Materials needed

To get the most out of this course, you'll need: Access to a device and the internet - for completing coursework and accessing learning materials A current DBS check - as you'll be working in a school or college setting, this must be in place before enrolment Employer support - your line manager or a senior colleague will need to be willing to liaise with your assessor and facilitate workplace observations A suitable role - you'll need to be in a position where you're regularly working with learners, so the units can be properly evidenced in your day-to-day practice Time for independent study - alongside your monthly evening session, you should expect to set aside some additional time each week for assignments and reflective work Level 2 English and maths - or equivalent. If you don't hold these, speak to us - we may be able to support you alongside this qualification

What can I do when I finish?

This qualification can open real doors. On completion, you'll be well placed for: - Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) roles - Senior TA and lead practitioner positions - Mentoring and supervisory responsibilities - Leadership and management pathways - Further study and progression to higher education
