Course overview
Whether you're a performer or someone who enjoys the technical side of music, our Level 2 Music programme will help you develop your skills, confidence and understanding of performance, production and the wider performing arts industry. Working with experienced staff and local industry partners, you'll build skills in performance technique, rehearsal discipline, production processes, teamwork, communication and industry knowledge. You'll also take part in multiple live performance opportunities that support your practical development and prepare you for progression to Level 3. Students will explore self promotion, professional expectations and workplace behaviours, helping you understand what it takes to succeed in the creative sector. Industry Partnerships Throughout the course, learners have opportunities to engage with regional creative organisations including: - FX Productions - live events and technical production - Aycliffe Radio - audio recording, presenting and broadcasting - Kynren - large scale outdoor performance environments - The Auckland Project - arts, culture and community based events These partnerships help build real world understanding of professional creative industries. Live Performance Opportunities January Live Showcase A mid year indoor performance demonstrating progress in technique, rehearsal discipline and ensemble performance. June Outdoor Festival A large outdoor event where learners perform and support technical roles such as staging, sound or backstage work. Units Covered The Level 2 Music course delivers four units from the NCFE Performance Skills qualification: Unit 01 - Develop Technique for Performance Develop practical performance skills, assess strengths and weaknesses, create action plans and improve technique through structured practice. Unit 02 - Rehearse and Perform Learn rehearsal planning, selecting material, preparing technically, working safely and delivering confident live performances. Unit 03 - Performing Arts Production Process Understand how performances are planned and produced. Take part in backstage or technical roles such as sound, lighting, staging or administration. Unit 05 - Working in the Performing Arts Industry Explore industry job roles, organisations, pay scales, responsibilities and progression pathways.
Course requirements
There are no formal GCSE requirements for the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Performance Skills. Learners should show: - Enthusiasm for performance or music - A willingness to rehearse and participate - Basic communication and teamwork skills
What will I do?
The Level 2 programme is taught over three days per week, combining: - Workshops and technique classes - Rehearsal sessions - Studio work and production tasks - Performance preparation - Portfolio building - Live assessments - Industry linked project work

Materials needed
To fully participate in the course, students must bring: - Their own instrument - A pair of closed back headphones with a 3.5mm jack - Required for DAW work, studio sessions and classroom production
