Course overview
This course is for students who love performing and want to pursue a career in the performing arts industry. The course is hugely practical, with focus on professional standard performance training to prepare you to apply for a number of professional career pathways and higher education. Students also work with casting agents in mock auditions to become a professional performer. Throughout the course you are assessed in skills workshops, rehearsals and performances, with written work linked to practical development of performances. You will evaluate your skills, developing skills and knowledge as a performer. On the course you will train in acting, singing and dance, with a curriculum written around industry links and insights, which also includes further enrichment in the form of cultural visits, guest speakers and masterclasses. The college is proud to work closely with Eleven Arches and their production of Kynren which gives our students the opportunity to appear on a worldclass stage right on their doorstep, giving them the opportunity for further work placement and potential employment as paid actors. Progression from this course would be to the college's own HND course or university. Level 3 Diploma 1 year of study and Level 3 Extended Diploma 1 Year of Study.
Course requirements
Level 2 in performing arts or equivalent. GCSE Grades 4 or above in English and maths.
What will I do?
Learners will study the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts over one year. It has been designed for a wide range of learners, who are interested in improving their skills and understanding of the performing arts industry. The course is three days per week. (Also, undertake maths and English if you do not have an A-C or 9-5 grade) Each learner will produce a portfolio of evidence consisting of a variety of assessed pieces of work, which could include assignments and internal and external projects. There are also pre-set externally marked and assessed tasks from the awarding body. Units include performance workshop, performing arts business, historical context of performance, rehearsing for performance, performing to an audience, plus optional units.
What will it give me?
Learners will be studying towards a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts
Materials needed
Practical kit including dance shoes and a college hoodie, along with basic stationery items.
What can I do when I finish?
This qualification can help to progress learners to the higher level courses, such as the HND in Performing Arts at Bishop Auckland College or a university degree or into employment.
