Course overview

Students will develop their practical skills and knowledge, with classes made up of both theory and practical elements. The course will teach you how to be proficient at setting out and building half brick, solid and cavity walls with decorative features. Students can go out on work placement as well as experiencing further enrichment with site visits and hearing from local employers visiting the college to deliver masterclasses and talks around industry standards and career progression, such as Kier, Esh group and Equans. Students can also enrich their skills and development working towards their CSCS card, which is a requirement on most building sites now.

Course requirements

L1 Bricklaying or equivalent. English and maths GCSE Grade 4 or above an advantage by not essential.

What will I do?

The Diploma in Bricklaying Level 2 contains five units which have two online tests and four paper based (theory and practical). The units include: - Health, Safety and Welfare in construction - Principles of building construction, information and communication - Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers - Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures - Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures

Materials needed

You will need safety footwear and overalls which you can purchase from the College.

What can I do when I finish?

If you gain suitable grades you may want to progress to a paid Apprenticeship at Level 2 or 3.
