Course overview
As a student on this course, you will be working on light vehicles, within the well-equipped and resourced workshop. Covering theory and practical aspects of routine vehicle maintenance, removal and replacement of engine units and components, electrical auxiliary units, chassis units and components. The curriculum has been developed to link fully to industry standards. Students will obtain the most up to date and relevant knowledge as well as the opportunity to enhance their skills with a new classroom dedicated to hybrid and electrical training. Students will benefit from work placement opportunities. Progression can lead onto Level 3 or an apprenticeship standard. Additionally, all students will benefit from extra enrichment offsite visits - including Porsche Dealership Teesside, Autosport's - NEC Birmingham, Croft Track Days and also opportunities to do work placements abroad through our Turin programme. We also have onsite visits from industry professionals including Varta, Comma and local Motor factors to show students different opportunities of employment within the motor vehicle industry.
Course requirements
L2 Fitting qualification or equivalent. GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and maths.
What will I do?
You will study the essential theory of modern vehicle technology in classroom and develop the practical skills in the workshop which will enable you to carry out routine maintenance and repair tasks on light vehicles.
What will it give me?
The course will give you a City & Guilds Diploma Qualification at Level 2, which is recognised by industry and which will give you the knowledge and understanding required to pursue a career in the Motor industry. The College has an extremely successful record in progressing Level 2 learners into paid Apprenticeships as soon as they are ready. We work with a number of local employers in providing training of automotive apprentices.
Materials needed
You will need safety footwear, overalls and a course text book all of which can be purchased from the College. You will also need a course folder, paper, pens and memory stick.
What can I do when I finish?
If you gain suitable grades you may progress to the Level 3 City & Guilds in Vehicle Maintenance and repair (light vehicles) course or a paid Apprenticeship at Level 2 or 3.
