Course overview

Working with local employers ensuring the delivery of the course meets current industry skills and standards, students will develop a range of carpentry techniques, including how to install first fix flooring and roofing, first fix frames, partitions and stairs, and second fixing operations. Learning how to safely operate equipment such as a circular saw, as well as learning how to carry out carpentry maintenance and the importance of sustainability. Students also benefit from further enrichment opportunities including working towards a CSCS card, site visits, guest speakers and masterclasses. Progression can lead into the Level 3 course and or an apprenticeship.

Course requirements

Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent. English and maths GCSE Grade 4 or above an advantage by not essential.

What will I do?

The new City & Guilds Construction Diplomas are highly regarded within the industry. You will gain knowledge and carry out many activities on this course relating to carpentry, joinery and construction. You will study the following whilst studying the Diploma in Site Carpentry Level 2: - Health, S afety and Welfare in Construction - Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication - First Fix Flooring and Roofing - First Fix Frames, Partitions and Stairs - Second Fixing Operations - Carpentry Maintenance - Set Up and Operate a Circular Saw

What will it give me?

The course will give you the essential skills and knowledge required to work as a Carpenter on a building site. It will also prepare you for further learning.

Materials needed

You will require steel toe cap safety boots and a polo shirt and jumper which you can purchase from the College. You will also be required to wear a high visibility vest in practical sessions which is supplied by the College.

What can I do when I finish?

If you gain suitable grades you may want to progress to the Level 3 Site Carpentry or a paid Apprenticeship at Level 2 or 3.
