Course overview

These qualifications are for people working in or looking to work in internal quality assurance e.g. internal verification of assessment andleading internal verification of assessment and certification. These qualifications are open to people carrying out quality assurance in most learning environments including FE, Adult Continuing Learning and Employers. They are designed for anyone carrying out quality assurance in all occupational sectors, accredited learning and non-accredited learning qualifications. It offers opportunities to develop and improve the quality assurance of the principles and practices of assessing vocational achievement and leading and managing a team of IVs/IQAs as well as gaining a professional qualification

Course requirements

You should be at least 19 years old and be working as a Lead IV/ IQA and be leading a team of quality assurers (minimum of two). Have a recognised assessor qualification and preferably you will hold a recognised qualification in the vocationally specialist subject area where you will be undertaking quality assurance of assessment processes and practices. You will also be required to be monitoring a minimum if two assessors, each with a minimum of two candidates of their own.

What will I do?

Your course of study will use a blended learning approach and you will be expected to attend college, use the Virtual Learning Environment to share your experience of quality assurance with your peers on the course and also meet with your course tutor to complete assessment tasks. You will also be observed working with two assessors undertaking quality assurance of assessment.

The course consists of 3 units. You will be expected to attend class and meet a minimum requirement of guided learning hours for each unit. You will study the three mandatory units of: Understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment, internally assure the quality of assessment and Plan, Allocate and Monitor Work in Own Area of Responsibility.

What will it give me?

A recognised qualification certified by CACHE at Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes & Practice. Where you are qualified to carry out quality assurance of other assessors processes and decisions and lead the quality assurance of assessment processes and practice and give clearance to certify student awards (based on rules and regulations of individual awarding bodies).

Materials needed

You do not require a uniform, and you will be expected to provide stationery and purchase a text book to support your studies.

What can I do when I finish?

You can progress onto the PG/Cert Ed in Post Compulsory Education and Training programme within the College validated by the University of Sunderland if you have already achieved a GCSE Grade C and above or a Level 2 equivalent in both Maths and English.

The knowledge only unit is for anyone interested in knowing more about this area of work. Learners do not have to be practitioners to achieve this unit. However they can progress on to the competence based units when their role allows. There are also opportunities for progression into other qualifications such as L3 Award or L4 Certificate in Education & Training and the L&D qualifications.
