Course overview

Not everyone can attend regular classes- Flexible Learning means you can study at times and locations to suit you. More and more people are choosing to study on a Flexible Learning course to improve their general employability skills. The courses can be offered in a venue within the community and built around your training requirements. All our tutors are specialists in their vocational area and offer exceptionally high quality one-to-one support. Whatever your background or experience, we believe there will be a programme of interest to you.

Funding eligibility criteria:

• Candidate must be aged 19 or over on 31 August of current year
• Candidates aged 19-23 must already hold a Full Level 2 Qualification
• Candidates must have resided in the EU for the past three years

Course requirements

Learners must have a genuine interest in their chosen subject. This course is designed for learners who are looking to start working, or already working in health and social care, who would like an understanding of common health conditions and their effects on individuals. Learners do not have to be in employment to enrol on this course.

What will I do?

You will be required to complete three modules of study. The course will cover Module A Unit 1 Arthritis awareness Unit 2 Stroke awareness Module B Unit 3 Dementia awareness Unit 4 Parkinson’s disease awareness Module C Unit 5 Sensory loss awareness Unit 6 Understand how to contribute to monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions. Learners are required to complete assessments that are based upon the information and activities within the learning materials provided. There is no end test or multiple choice exam for this course

What will it give me?

By following the programme learners will gain an awareness of some of the most common health conditions among older people in the UK. The learner will examine the signs, symptoms, risk factors and treatment options for each one. They will also look at a range of strategies – some of which they can put into practice themselves – that can help to improve the quality of life of someone living with one or a number of these conditions. On successful completion of the course a Level 2 certificate will be awarded. The course is accredited by a nationally recognised awarding body.
