Course overview

Not everyone can attend regular classes- Flexible Learning means you can study at times and locations to suit you. More and more people are choosing to study on a Flexible Learning course to improve their general employability skills. The courses can be offered in a venue within the community and built around your training requirements. All our tutors are specialists in their vocational area and offer exceptionally high quality one-to-one support. Whatever your background or experience, we believe there will be a programme of interest to you.

Funding eligibility criteria:

  • Candidate must be aged 19 or over on 31 August of current year
  • Candidates aged 19-23 must already hold a Full Level 2 Qualification
  • Candidates must have resided in the EU for the past three years

Course requirements

Learners must have a genuine interest in their chosen subject. This qualification is aimed at learners who work with, or would like to work with, individuals with learning disabilities. Although it will be particularly useful to those working in health and social care, it will also be of interest to those who work in education or housing support roles. Learners do not have to be in employment to enrol on this course.

What will I do?

You will be required to complete two modules of study. The course will cover Module A Unit 1 Understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities. Unit 2 Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care. Unit 3 Introduction to personalisation in social care. Module B Unit 4 Principles of positive risk-taking for individuals with disabilities. Unit 5 Introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions. Unit 6 Principles of supporting individuals with a learning disability to access health care.

Learners are required to complete assessments that are based upon the information and activities within the learning materials provided. There is no end test or multiple choice exam for this course

What will it give me?

Individuals with learning disabilities require personalised care to meet their needs. They should be supported to live as independently as possible, and to make decisions and choices about their lives and lifestyles. This qualification will help to prepare you for employment or support your existing role in the workplace or help you when interacting with individuals with learning disabilities. On successful completion of the course a Level 2 certificate will be awarded. The course is accredited by a nationally recognised awarding body.
