Course overview

Not everyone can attend regular classes -Flexible Learning means you can study at times and locations to suit you. More and more people are choosing to study on a Flexible Learning course to improve their general employability skills. The courses can be offered in a venue within the community and built around your training requirements. All our tutors are specialists in their vocational area and offer exceptionally high quality one-to-one support. Funding eligibility criteria:

• Candidate must be aged 19 or over on 31 August of current year

• Candidates aged 19-23 must already hold a Full Level 2 Qualification

• Candidates must have resided in the EU for the past three years

Course requirements

Learners must have a genuine interest in their chosen subject. This qualification is suitable for anyone wanting to increase their knowledge and understanding of common childhood illnesses so that they can support the well-being of babies and young children they support and care for. Learners do not have to be in employment to enrol on this course.

What will I do?

You will be required to complete 2 modules of study. MODULE A: Unit 1: Understand how to provide a safe and healthy environment for babies and young children. MODULE B: Unit 2: Understand common childhood illnesses. Unit 3: Understand health emergencies and specific health conditions in an early years setting. Learners are required to complete assessments that are based upon the information and activities within the learning materials provided.

There is no end test or multiple-choice exam for this course

What will it give me?

You will gain a thorough understanding of the reasons why babies and children may become unwell. Candidates will examine how infectious illnesses are spread in an early years setting and how good personal hygiene and cleanliness routines can protect children from certain illnesses. Candidates will also learn how common childhood illnesses are treated and how to effectively respond to medical emergencies involving a baby or child in their care. For example, they will look at how to recognise and respond to suspected meningitis, asthma attacks, hypoglycaemia and severe allergic reactions. The course also provides employers with a structured training programme, giving peace of mind that staff are equipped with the knowledge they need to support children who may become unwell in the early years setting. On successful completion of the course, a Level 2 certificate will be awarded. The course is accredited by a nationally recognised awarding body.
