Course overview

Not everyone can attend regular classes. Flexible Learning means you can study at times and locations to suit you. More and more people are choosing to study on a Flexible Learning course to improve their general employability skills. The courses can be offered in a venue within the community and built around your training requirements. All our tutors are specialists in their vocational area and offer exceptionally high quality one-to-one support. Whatever your background or experience, we believe there will be a programme of interest to you.

Funding eligibility criteria:

• Candidate must be aged 19 or over on 31 August of current year

• Candidates aged 19-23 must already hold a Full Level 2 Qualification

• Candidates must have resided in the EU for the past three years

Course requirements

Learners must have a genuine interest in their chosen subject. Whether it is in a personal or professional capacity, this course has relevance to anyone with an interest in child development and the factors that affect children’s behaviour, emotional well-being and ability to learn. It is particularly relevant to early years practitioners, teachers and teaching assistants, childminders and those who work in children’s services. It should also be a valuable aid to parents and other primary carers. Learners do not have to be in employment to enrol on this course.

What will I do?

You will be required to complete one module covering two units of study. These are: Understanding neuroscience in early years and Understanding self-regulation and how to nurture this in children from birth to seven years. Learners are required to complete assessments that are based upon the information and activities within the learning materials provided. There is no end test or multiple-choice exam for this course.

What will it give me?

By following this programme, learners will be able to develop their knowledge and understanding of how the brain develops, the importance of positive early experiences and the role adults can play in nurturing children to develop a critical set of skills helping them to remain calm attentive and able to deal with powerful emotions such as fear, anger and sadness. On successful completion of the course a Level 2 certificate will be awarded. The course is accredited by a nationally recognised awarding body.
