Course overview
The Introduction to Criminology course provides learners with an opportunity to find out a little about the subject of Criminology at a basic level.
It is a short course and is normally delivered over one morning per week for
four weeks.
By the end of the 4-week intro course, we will support you to be
able to:
• provide a basic definition of 'crime'
• demonstrate that ideas
about what a crime is, and what it is not, are often contested
• gain a
good understanding of what criminology is and the subject matter it pertains
to
• understand what criminologists ‘do’
• develop and use
criminological imagination to think about problems of crime and justice in new
ways, going beyond everyday understandings
This 4-week intro course also gives learners a nice introduction to the method of assessment that follows through to the Level 2 Criminology course.
