Course overview

The Navigation and map reading course is a practical hands-on navigation course. It is aimed at people with no or limited navigation experience. This award teaches navigation skills in the countryside using paths tracks and other features. Basic map interpretation such as contour lines and compass work is also included. Most importantly you will gain the knowledge of how to stay as safe as possible on a walk whilst looking after the environment.

Utilise a map and compass to plot and navigate a route.

Risk management when walking.

Confidence in navigating at a low level.

Materials needed

Outdoor walking equipment such as waterproofs, appropriate walking shoes / boots.
