Course overview

If you aspire to be a Bricklayer then the Diploma in Bricklaying Level 1 is the place to start. This course will give you an introduction into the skills required in bricklaying as well as an understanding of the elements of various structures. You will learn and practice the skills needed to be successful in your career, whether this is working for an employer or working for yourself running your own business.

Course requirements

Minimum 3 GCSE’s at grades 2 - 1 (E - F) or equivalent, or entry level qualification. Alternative qualifications and experience will be considered.

What will I do?

The Diploma in Bricklaying Level 1 contains six units which have two online tests and four paper based (theory and practical). Units include:

  • Principles of building construction, information and communication
  • Contribute to setting out and building of masonry structures up to damp proof course
  • Carry out blocklaying and bricklaying activities.
  • Carry out cavity walling activities
  • Health, Safety and Welfare in construction

What will it give me?

The course will give you an introduction into the skills required in bricklaying. An understanding of the elements of various structures. An improved CV and preparation for further learning at the next level.

Materials needed

You will need safety footwear and overalls which you can purchase from the College. You will be provided with a high visibility vest to be worn during practical sessions.

What can I do when I finish?

You can progress to the Diploma in Bricklaying Level 2 course or Apprenticeship.
