Course overview
The Level 1 diploma course in Painting and Decorating is designed to give
anyone new to this discipline an insight into the basic techniques used in
becoming a qualified painter and decorator.
You will be required to
undertake practical assessments for painting and wallpapering tasks along with a
knowledge assessment to assess your understanding of the techniques.
This
programme will give you a good footing for the higher Level 2 programme.
You
will also carry out a work experience programme, working alongside a qualified
painter and decorator.

Course requirements
Minimum 3 GCSE’s at grades 2 - 1 (E - F) or equivalent, or entry level qualification. Alternative qualifications and experience will be considered.
What will I do?
The Diploma in Painting & Decorating Level 1 will prepare you for entry into the field of painting & decorating and will involve you studying safe working practices, building methods and construction technology, erecting and dismantling working platforms, preparing surfaces for decoration, applying paint systems, foundation and plain papers and producing specialist decorative finishes.
What will it give me?
The course will prepare you for further learning or training and will develop your knowledge and skills. It will also give you a Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating.
Materials needed
You will need safety footwear and white overalls which you can purchase from the College.
What can I do when I finish?
If you gain suitable grades you may want to progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Painting & Decorating course or a paid Apprenticeship at Level 2 or 3.
