Bishop Auckland College has one of the largest catering departments in the North East. Training students to work to industry standards and applying their skills in our newly launched state of the art kitchens and Ambition restaurant.

Course requirements
Minimum 4 GCSE’s at grades 3 - 2 (D - E) or equivalent, including a D in Maths and English, or a Level 1 qualification in a relevant subject area.
What will I do?
The Level 2 Diploma in Culinary Skills is taught over three days per week. Studying Culinary Skills at Bishop Auckland College gives you two possible routes to a Level 3 qualification which will prepare you for work in the catering industry. The programme is a mix of skills and knowledge you will need to prepare you for work in the sector. Cooking, Food and Beverage service, Maths and English are all essential elements of the course to ensure you have the skills to use equipment and recipes, take orders, cost and order ingredients and prepare food to a high standard.
What will it give me?
This programmes gives you a firm grounding in Catering, enabling you to experience working in the busy kitchens. Also working in the College restaurant will prepare you for employment in the sector or progression to a higher level course. It will also gove you a Level 2 Diploma in Culinary Skills.
Materials needed
Before commencing the course you will be required to purchase uniform for both the kitchen and restaurant. Course text books are available at discounted rates from the College. Assistance with this may be available.
What can I do when I finish?
If you gain suitable grades you may progress to a Level 3 Catering and Hospitality programme.
