Course overview
If you are looking to improve your knowledge within the Sport & Leisure industry, then the Certificate in Sport Level 1 is the place to start.
This course can provide the skills required to give you a basic knowledge base for working in the Sports Industry. While on the course you are given the opportunity to learn how to coach a wide range of sports and / or safely prepare a fitness session within the College fitness suite.
You also get the chance to organise events for local Primary schools to come and visit the college and take part in various sports.

Course requirements
Minimum 3 GCSE’s at grades 2 - 1 (E - F) or equivalent, or entry level qualification. Alternative qualifications and experience will be considered.
What will I do?
Whilst studying the Certificate in Sport Level 1, you will be able to practice your skills in our purpose built sports hall covering topics such as:
- Taking part in Sport
- Sports Coaching
- Personal Exercise and Fitness
- Effects of Exercise and Nutrition
You will also take part in work placement / experience and enterprise activities. All of which will improve your employability skills.
What will it give me?
The course will prepare you for further learning or training and will develop your knowledge and skills in Sport and Leisure. You will also attain a Level 1 Certificate in Sport.
Materials needed
You will need to provide appropriate sportswear such as sports top, shorts, trousers and trainers. You will also have the opportunity to purchase a college branded sports kit (concessions may apply for students based on their personal circumstances). You will also be required to wear the appropriate kit if you want to participate in one of our sports academies (football academy, rugby academy, table tennis academy, street dance academy, fitness academy).
What can I do when I finish?
If you gain suitable grades you may progress onto the range of Level 2 sport related courses at college.
