Course overview

This full-time Childcare course will provide you with an introduction to a wide range of key subject areas within Childcare and Education.

This qualification is designed to help you build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people in social care, learning and development support services from birth to 19 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in children’s environments.

This qualification is fulltime and designed for 16-18-year olds wanting a career in the Education and Childcare or social services sector. This course offers you the opportunity to explore childcare services before specialising in Early Years or Health and Social Care.

Course requirements

You will need a minimum of a GSCE grade 2 in English and Maths. You also need a clear DBS and a willingness to work with others as a team.

What will I do?

You will be required to have a placement experience in a Childcare setting, we will provide you with the ability to attend a placement and conduct the DBS in order for you to do this. To be awarded the Level 2 certificate for the Children and Young peoples you will need to complete 13 units of work which is include coursework and work placed competencies.

What will it give me?

The skills required to progress to Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner or Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

Materials needed

You will be offered to purchase a college polo shirt for your placement experience and having a memory stick is advised. Please bring pens and note book to every lesson.

What can I do when I finish?

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to the following:

• Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner

• Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care
