Course overview

The Esports industry is currently demonstrating huge growth. This course has been designed to give students an insight into Esports and will develop the required skills and knowledge needed to work in this exciting industry. The qualification is endorsed by the British Esports Association as being suitable for students either wanting to work in the industry or wanting to develop many transferable skills.

This one-year full-time course provides an introductory study of the sector, supporting progression to the level 2 course.

The emphasis is on the development of skills needed to be successful in the Esport industry, including entrepreneurship, innovation, teamwork, communication, leadership skills, confidence building, decision-making, reaction times, reading comprehension skills, cyber skills, dexterity and concentration.

Students who do not have English/Maths GCSE at C/4 will have the opportunity to study English and Maths alongside their programme.

You will be studying in our brand-new digital technology suite, which features:

• Bespoke gaming benches & corsair gaming chairs

• Custom built intel core 17 gaming PCs

• Razer gaming keyboards & mice

• HTC hive pro virtual reality technology

• 86” smart interactive display boards

Course requirements

• An Entry 3 qualification

• A standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to four GCSEs at grades 1-3

• Other related qualifications

• Related work experience

Applicants must be aware that if students do not have a GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths and/or English, they will have to undertake further study in these subjects as part of their programme of study in addition to the main 'core' qualification.

What will I do?

The Level 1 BTEC in Esports is made up of three different units all of which will be delivered and completed in the Academic Year. A variety of assessment methods will be used including practical work, case studies and tournament participation.

Units covered may include:

• Designing an interactive presentation on Esports games / Teams

• Branding an Esports Team

• Creating and presenting an Esports idea (e.g. game)

Materials needed

Our new IT suites are equipped with state-of-the-art advanced technology equipment. Basic stationery is also required.

What can I do when I finish?

If you have successfully completed this course with good grades and attendance you will be able to progress to the level 2 BTEC in Esports.
