Extended Diploma in Esports L3
The Esports industry is currently demonstrating huge growth. This course has been designed to enable students to learn and develop the required skills and knowledge needed to progress onto University or into employment in this exciting industry. The qualification is endorsed by the British Esports Association as being suitable for students wanting to work in the industry. It also carries UCAS points and many Universities offer Esports degrees.
This can either be a one-year or two year full-time course and provides an in-depth study of the sector, supporting progression to either higher education or employment in key areas of the industry such as: Coaching, Health and Fitness in the Esports industry, Enterprise and Creativity, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Esports Events, Practical Gaming, Gaming Citizenship, Personal and Professional Development along with an understanding and appreciation of the positive benefits of Esports.
The emphasis is on the development of skills needed to be successful in the Esports industry, including entrepreneurship, innovation, teamwork, communication, leadership skills, confidence building, decision-making, reaction times, reading comprehension skills, cyber skills, dexterity and concentration.
Students who do not have English/Maths GCSE at C/4 will have the opportunity to study English and maths alongside their programme.

Minimum 4 GCSE’s at grades 9 - 4 (A* - C) or equivalent, including a C or above in Maths and English, or a Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject area.
What will I do?
The Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Esports will be studied in the 1st year and then can be topped up to an Extended Diploma in year 2. A variety of assessment methods will be used including practical work and case studies.
Units covered may include:
• Introduction to Esports
• Esports Skills, Strategies and Analysis
• Enterprise and Entrepreneurship in the Esports Industry
• Esports Events
• Live stream broadcasting
• Video Production
• Game Design
• Esports and Social Media
What will it give me?
The course will help you achieve BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Esports, if only studied for 1 year, or a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Esports if studied for 2 years. In addition, qualifications in Maths and English if you do not already hold a grade 4 (C) or above. It will help to develop skills and employment opportunities and the ability to progress to a University.
The units are designed to provide deep insight into Esports and may be adjusted to update content and to reflect variations within the industry internationally and in the future. Learners will develop a wide range of transferable skills and knowledge that can be applied to other careers and sectors.
What can I do when I finish?
The BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma (1 year) will allow you to go into employment in areas such as: Coaching, Health and Fitness in the Esports industry, Enterprise and Creativity, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Esports Events, Practical Gaming, Gaming Citizenship. The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (2 year) will also allow you to progress to University.
The qualification is aimed at learners who want to progress to employment in the Esports industry, possibly via an apprenticeship, or who may aspire to enter higher education as this course carries UCAS Points. This means that it will be recognised by employers and Universities and it will support you entering into the industry in a range of roles.
