Course overview

The NOCN Diploma/Certificate in Independent Living Skills and Employment Training and Personal Development, has been devised for learners who have significant learning difficulties and disabilities. On the course you will be working from Entry 1 to Entry 3 to develop the skills you will need at home and in everyday life and help you work towards employment.

Set over 3 days a week, where you will have the opportunity to develop your maths and English skills. You will take part in visits and various activities, including outings and development exercises, work experience and work in the classroom. Extensive support will be provided for learners during class, breaks and lunchtimes.

What will I do?

Whilst at college and studying at Aspire you will learn about employability and independent living skills taking into account targets set by your EHCP plans. You will take part in various tasters such as Hair and beauty, childcare, music, art, catering, IT and sport. Subjects may include basic cooking, using kitchen equipment, art & crafts, personal and social development, home and personal safety skills.

What will it give me?

This course will give you foundation for lifelong learning focusing on transferable social, life and employability skills which are essential for living and working in the community.

What can I do when I finish?

Once you have built your skills in Aspire you may progress on to the Level 1 Employability course or a main stream course at the college or into employment.
